# How to Hide Specific Categories from User

## There are two ways to hide a category, depending on who you want to hide it from:

1. **Hide a category from all regular users** – uses the category's **Hidden** setting.
2. **Hide/restrict a category from specific users only** – uses User Groups, Offices, or Teams.

Use the option below that matches what you're trying to do.

**Option 1: hide a category from all users**

This is the most common use case — you want a category to stay available to admins for editing and setup, but not appear anywhere for regular users on the front end yet.

1. Go to **Designs → Categories**.
2. Find the category you want to hide and select **Actions → Edit**.
3. Scroll to the category settings and enable **Hidden from regular users** to hide to non admin users.
4. Save your changes.

**What this does:**

- The category is removed from the left-hand navigation panel that regular users see, so it will not appear on their dashboard.
- The category **remains fully visible and editable in the admin panel**, so admins can continue building it out, adding designs, and organizing templates before it's ready to launch.
- This is ideal for staging new categories, seasonal content, or designs that are still in progress.

**Note:** Hidden categories are still counted when performing actions like copying a category, so the design/template count shown may include hidden or restricted items even though users won't see them.

**Option 2: restrict a category to specific users**

If you don't want to hide the category from *everyone*, but only from certain users, use content restrictions instead of the Hidden toggle.

1. In the **Admin Panel**, go to **Users \> Users**.
2. Locate the user you want to update and click the **Actions** menu to the right of the user’s name.
3. Select **Edit User**.
4. Scroll down to the **Category Limitations** section.
5. Select the categories you want to hide from the user.
6. Click **Update User** to save your changes.

Once saved, the selected categories will no longer be visible to that user.
