# How do Bleeds and Safe Zones Work?

## Bleeds and Safe Zones are printing guidelines designed to ensure your designs print accurately and nothing important gets cut off during trimming.

When you open a **print material** in the design studio, you’ll notice two guides added to the canvas:

- A **red line**, which represents the **Safe Zone**
- A **blue line**, which represents the **Bleed Line**

These lines exist specifically for **printing purposes** and help account for small variations that can occur when a design is trimmed to its final size.

**Safe Zone: Red Line**

The **red line** marks the **Safe Zone**, or the area of the design that will not be trimmed.

- Any text, logos, or important elements placed inside this area will remain intact after printing.
- Avoid placing text or critical content beyond this line, as it may be **cut off** during the printing process.

**Bleed Line: Blue Line**

The **blue line** indicates the **Bleed Zone**, which is the extended edge of the design used during printing.

- Background colors, photos, and design elements should extend **past the safe zone and into the bleed area.**
- Extending elements into the bleed ensures your design reaches the edge after trimming and prevents unwanted white borders.
- Photos and background elements should reach the **very edge of the design canvas.**
