# What's new in Designer 3.0

## Designer 3.0 is where you create and edit your designs. This article walks you through what is in it and where to find everything.

**Getting around the editor**

Down the left side of the screen you will find the main menu:

- Media, where your images, uploads and other files live. What you see in here can vary depending on your platform.
- Text, to add and edit text. Type into the Enter text here box and click Add Text. The Write with AI option sits in this same panel.
- Elements, for shapes and icons.
- Layers, a list of everything on the page you are looking at. Move to another page and the list changes to show what is on that page.
- Apps, for extras you can add to a design, such as QR codes. What you see in here can vary depending on your platform.
- Settings, for your design preferences.
- Support, at the very bottom, if you need help.

**Renaming your design**

Your design name sits directly above the design.

1. Click the name shown above your design.
2. Type the new name.
3. Click Save.

**The design toolbar**

To the right of the design name is a row of six icons. These act on the page you are currently viewing. In order, they are:

- Delete page
- AI Image Creator
- AI Logo Creator
- Generate Text
- Duplicate page
- Add page

*Tip: hover over any icon and its name will appear, so you always know which one you are about to click. When you click one of the AI icons, a panel opens on the left side of the screen with that tool in it.

**Rulers and guides**

Rulers help you place things exactly where you want them. They are not switched on to begin with, so you need to turn them on yourself.

1. Look for the ruler button in the bottom left corner of the screen, next to the undo and redo arrows.
2. Click it. A turquoise ruler appears along the top of your design and down the right side of your workspace.
3. Click it again whenever you want to hide the rulers.

**Adding a guide**

A guide is a line you place yourself to help you line elements up. You need to have the rulers switched on before you can add one.

1. Turn the rulers on.
2. Click and hold anywhere on the top ruler or the right ruler.
3. Drag towards your design.
4. Let go where you want the guide to sit. It appears as a thin turquoise line.

To move a guide, click and drag it to its new position. To remove one, drag it off your design. It disappears as soon as it leaves the design, so you do not need to drag it all the way back to the ruler.

*Guides are there to help you line things up on screen. They are not part of your design and they will not appear when you download or print.*

**Zoom**

The zoom controls sit along the bottom of the screen, underneath your design. Use the minus button to zoom out, the plus button to zoom in, or drag the slider between them. The percentage next to the slider tells you how far in or out you are.

**Undo and redo**

The undo and redo arrows are in the bottom left corner, just to the right of the ruler button. Undo steps back through your recent changes and redo puts them back.

**Working with pages**

Underneath your design is a strip of small page previews showing every page in the design.

1. Click any page to open it.
2. Click the square with the plus sign to add a new page.

*Tip: a page you have not opened yet shows as a plain grey square with no preview on it. That is normal. Click it and the preview is created and the page opens.*

**Different ways to view your design**

The view controls are in the bottom right corner of the screen, next to the page counter that tells you which page you are on, for example Page 1/2.

**Rotate**

Rotate turns the design on screen so you can look at it from another angle. Each click moves it another 90 degrees, and the angle appears in the bottom right corner as 90, then 180, then -90. Keep clicking and you come back around to where you started.

Good to know: rotating only changes how the design looks on your screen while you are working on it. It does not change your design and it does not change how it prints. Your design is saved and printed in the orientation of its design type, so if you rotate it to 180 degrees while editing, it will still come out the right way up. If you need a design in a different orientation, it needs to be created using a design type with that orientation.

If you have print guidelines showing, they stay where they are when you rotate. They do not turn with the design, so they will look out of place until you rotate back.

**Seeing all of your pages**

Print view and Vertical view are not on screen to begin with. You reach them through Pages Preview, the button next to Rotate.

1. Click Pages Preview in the bottom right corner. Your pages are generated as previews.
2. Four buttons now appear in the bottom right corner: Vertical view, Rotate, Edit mode and Print view.
3. Click whichever view you want.

Here is what each one does:

- Print view lays all of your pages out next to each other so you can see the whole thing the way it will come out when printed.
- Vertical view shows one page large with your other pages as small previews at the side, so you can move through them one at a time.
- Rotate is not available while you are in this mode, which is why it appears greyed out.
- Edit mode takes you back to the normal editing screen so you can carry on working.

**The AI tools**

**AI Image Creator**

1. Click the AI Image Creator icon beside your design name.
2. The Generate Image panel opens on the left.
3. Describe the image you want in the box. You have up to 1,000 characters.
4. Click Generate.

Please note: if you use AI generated or AI altered images in your marketing, you are responsible for following the laws that apply to you. Some places, California among them, require a clear notice on certain content saying the image was created or changed using artificial intelligence. You will see this reminder in the panel as well.

**AI Logo Creator**

The AI Logo Creator works the same way. Click its icon beside the design name and its own panel opens on the left, ready for you to describe what you need.

Generate Text**

Generate Text opens the Write with AI panel, which drafts copy for you from a short prompt. You can also reach it from the Text menu on the left.

1. Click Generate Text beside your design name.
2. Tell the AI what you want it to write.
3. Set the Maximum Length using the slider if you want something shorter or longer. It starts at 300.
4. Click Submit.
5. To drop the result into a particular text box, click that text box on your design and then click Replace.
